Professional Chef 1

What are the responsibilities of a professional cook?

  • ​Prepares vegetables, soups, sauces, meats, fish and poultry, cold kitchen items, deserts, baking and pastry for presentation 
  • Basic menu planning/costing 
  • Supervises safety in the kitchen, sanitation and safe food storage

What do I need to start? 

  • ​Entering Grade 11 or Grade 12 
  • English 10 or any Language Arts 11
  • Workplace/Foundations Math 10 or 11
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Hand/eye coordination and good motor skills
  • Food Safe Level 1 - to be completed before the start of the program​

What​t are the benefits?

Upon ​successful completion:

  • ​Post-secondary apprenticeship training without the tuition fee 
  • Up to 24 credits towards graduation 
  • 30 Vancouver Community College credit​
  • Apprenticeship Technical Training Level 1  (Red Seal)

When and where is the program offered? 

  • ​Location: Carson Graham Secondary School
  • Schedule: Day 1's INCLUSIVE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS
  • Time: 7:45 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • 12 seats available - Priority will be given to grade 12's who have met requirements

How do I register? 

  • ​Please see the school Work Experience Teacher for application package 
  • Participate in an interview 
  • Attend an evening information session  - Dual Credit information night
  • Fee: $800 includes textbook, knife kit and culinary arts supply kit
  • Application: PC1 Carson Graham - Application Form
